Recent news
- 16 August 2026: The Sunday Times reports long afternoon ticket queues at Minneriya and says the park now closes at 6:00 pm (it used to be 6:30 pm). How we handle the queue.
- Late November 2025: The wildlife department closed Minneriya and several other parks from 28 November because of heavy rain (Cyclone Ditwah). They reopened in early December 2025.
Good to know
Parks can close at short notice after very heavy rain, usually in November and December. If the authorities close the park on your safari day, we'll offer you another date or another open park.
